bullet The students of SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled celebrate the beginning of a new year

05/01/2009

On Thursday, 25th, December, 2008, SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled celebrated the beginning of a new year 1430 A.H of the Muslim calendar. The celebration started with a march in SCHS's premises. Students held signs condemning the anti-Islam campaigns which is represented in the offensive drawings of Prophet Mohammed (peace is upon him).

After that, the students gathered at the school's yard to hear the welcoming speech by Mrs. Nawal Ali the Islamic studies teacher, who clarified the meanings of this celebration. Then, a number of students preformed a sketch to show the different stages of Prophet Mohammed's (piece is upon him) immigration from Mecca to Medina. The students used solid figures such as the Kaaba, Hirah cave, and the Prophet's mosque to perfect their performance. The female teachers participated as well in the sketch by acting as the unbelievers of Quraish who followed the Prophet to a cave in order to kill him but failed to do so because of God's care.

Furthermore, Mrs. Marym Ali recited some verses from the holy Koran. After that, two female teachers performed a sketch to trace back the ancestry of Prophet Mohammed (peace is upon him). One teacher played the role of a granddaughter asking her grandmother about the Prophet. The other teacher played the role of the grandmother who answered the questions with great care and tenderness. Then, both teachers and students chanted together.

Such activities will help introduce a better image about the Prophet Mohammed (peace is upon him) by acting. This will increase students' confidence because they are more knowledgeable about their Prophet.

Allowing students to participate in such activities helps them to overcome their fear and shyness, increase their interaction with others, and refresh their minds. Finally, the ceremony was concluded with a poem by Mrs. Hania Khatib and a sketch about the Kaaba by students
