On Tuesday, 20 October 2009, Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, Vice President of Family Supreme Council, Director General of SCHS, received a group of female volunteers from foreign countries, who have been active in the field of social and humanitarian work. They participated effectively in the preparations for the permanent exhibit of the products of SCHS's Vocational & Rehabilitation Department.
Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi expressed the feelings of appreciation and gratitude for the visiting volunteers. She motivated them to do more work with SCHS in order to have a better idea of about its projects, services, and performance. She told them to provide their experience in order to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi assured that people should claim their rights especially people with disabilities, who are in need for a change in the negative perspectives attached to them because they are able to achieve decent and honorable accounts for their selves and society.
Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi provided a clear idea about the different divisions of SCHS; its services and projects. She also mentioned the new building, which is under construction, which will terminate night school, which is needed for the lack of space and the big number of students.
Then, Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi talked about the Center for Early Intervention and the number of beneficiaries, who are receiving direct and indirect service such as rehabilitation, education, and employment. These services aim at building a better person with disability.
Moreover, guests gave a donation to support the activities and services of SCHS. The students Husain Bihirai received the donation on behalf of the city. Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi gave a souvenir to Fiona Jack, who has been doing a lot of work for people with disabilities.
Fiona Jack expressed the feelings of appreciation and gratitude for Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi and the whole staff of SCHS. She said that she likes working with the disabled because it is the most honorable and decent thing to do. She had a previous experience working with orphans injured by accidents.
Guests took delight in touring the different workshops of SCHS's Vvocational & Rehabilitation Department. They started in the carpentry workshop, where they have seen the various methods used to teach students with disability how to make furniture in order to be independent in the future.
Guests moved to painting workshop, where they have seen the various methods used to teach students with disability how to paint houses and make decorations in order to be independent in the future.
Then, the delegation moved to pottery workshop, where they have listened to an explanation about the way to create magnificent clay pieces by the head of the workshop Mr. Adhim Qasam.
Then, the delegation moved to handicrafts workshop, where they have listened to an explanation about the various methods in teaching female students handicrafts. Some volunteers from Australia joined students in their work by teaching them new ways to do magnificent handcrafts. Finally, the delegation concluded their tour in the permanent exhibit of the products of SCHS's Vocational & Rehabilitation Department.
