bullet SCHS's Physiotherapy department organizes several activities

On Sunday, 15th, March, 2009, the activities of physiotherapy week, which is organized by SCHS's physiotherapy department until the 21st, have started under the title 'start with your foot'. The activities include several lectures, free examinations For SCHS's staff, and consultation sessions for the parents of the disabled. The head of physiotherapy department Mr. Mohammed Faouzi has great expectations for this week. The work will be concentrated mainly on children as instructed by SCHS's specialists. Therefore, it was necessary to provide a (foot scan), which is an advanced device to detect disorders. It is connected to a computer that gives accurate results.

Consultation sessions for the parents of the disabled aim at changing their psychological condition, which is enforced by disability. They will have the chance to speak about their problems in front of specialists, who are going to take care of their disabled children until the sessions are over.

Examinations for SCHS's staff will be done by a neurologist, an Orthopedic Doctor, a Dentist, a Dermatologist, an Optician, a Pediatrician, and a Physician. These examinations, which will allow parents to check their children's health, are going to be free of charge.

The first activity of this week was a lecture entitled ' Start with your foot' by Mr. Waseem Labaan, a physiotherapy specialist and the general Secretary of Emirates Medical Association. The lecture, which was held in SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled auditorium, has witnessed a great attendance by SCHS's specialists and trainers.

He explained the different parts of human's foot and talked about the health problems that affect it such as motion disorders, etc. He also mentioned the effect of diabetes on feet, which can lead to a catastrophe result such as cutting off the leg.

Physiotherapy is very effective in treating foot diseases. Therefore, patients should stick to it and follow the instructions of therapists carefully. Here are some recommendations for healthy feet. Always wear comfortable shoes and avoid high heels. Never walks barefooted. Always keep your feet clean. Patients with diabetes have to have their feet checked regularly by a doctor.

Finally, the first day of physiotherapy week was packed with the activities mentioned previously. The activities will continue tomorrow with more lectures, examinations, and consultations.
