In the opening ceremony for its ninth circle (2008—2009) that was recently held in American University in Sharjah, EPAA has acknowledged the unique initiative by SCHS of establishing an environment group. This corresponds to committee's decision of establishing such groups in institutions that have membership in the EPAA. SCHS has created an award to motivate such initiatives and to execute programs about the importance of maintaining healthy environment. In addition, it will help in the preparations for the environment trail by putting a designed for the trail, organizing meetings, and participating in it.
Mrs. Khadeja Bamakhramah, head of SCHS's Environment Group, has been so proud of this acknowledgement by the EPAA, which has created strong feelings for the members of the Environment Group that they have been walking on the right track. The main purpose of establishing the environment group is to create an understanding in the minds of people about the importance of maintaining healthy environment especially, after it has become a global issue. SCHS has proven its professionalism in dealing with issues besides the issues of the disabled.
Mrs. Khadeja Bamakhramah has pointed out that SCHS will always rise for the challenge no matter what. It believes in the importance of maintaining healthy environment in order to have an advanced level of life.
She adds that the great success of Environment Group is due to the wisdom of Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, vice president of Sharjah Family Supreme Council, General Director of SCHS, who has been working intensively to maintain a healthy environment in order to motivate workers to do their best in line of duty.
SCHS's Environment Group has organized number of activities such as the first and the second campaign for recycling, Arbor Day with the cooperation of EPAA, cleaning the beach of Khorfakhan, organizing lectures about the environment in Daid, visiting paper recycling factory in Kalba, organizing lectures about the risks surrounding the environment, and creating an award for outstanding achievement in making the environment clean.
SCHS's Environment Group was established on 20th, September, 2007 with one main purpose, which is creating an understanding in the minds of people that maintaining a healthy environment is the responsibility of everyone. Therefore, it has been organizing lectures for workers about the environment, preparing workshops on the same subject, issuing fliers and brochures, and coordinating with other institutions working in the field of environment protection in order to exchange experience.
SCHS's Environment Group has managed to collect more than 10718 kilograms of paper waste, 1164 kilograms of plastic waste, 160 kilograms of cans, and 1027 kilograms of glass. It has also come first in recycling contest organized by United Arab Emirates Environment Union. Daid branch has won the contest organized by Tradition Club in Abu Dhabi by designing a shape made of paper waste.
SCHS's Environment Group annual plan includes two cleaning campaigns, monthly activity in which the different sections of SCHS takes turn of, visiting paper recycling factories, organizing a workshop on how to benefit from waste, organizing annual contest to emphasize the importance of the environment, participating in the activities organized by the EPAA, and participating in the activities organized by United Arab Emirates environment union.
