On Wednesday 19th, November, 2008, SCHS received a delegation from Al Ain Municipality headed by Mr. Hamd Muhssin Al Falahi the head of social department. The delegation included Mr. Soud Al Harithi the head of public parks department, Salah Mansori & Saif Khaleeli administrators, Mrs. Huda Al Biloshi the general coordinator, Mrs. Mooza Al Thahirie the head of water parks department, and Marym Hamdan the head of public relations department.
At their arrival, guests were received by Mrs. Mona Abed Kareem head of the School for the Intellectually Disabled, Mrs. Khadeja Bamakhramah, personal assistant of SCHS general director, Mr. Jihad Abed Qader head of human resources department, and Mr. Osama Mardini head of the Media & Information Department.
The main purpose of this visit is to see the unique services provided for people with special needs by SCHS. The delegation wants to benefit from its experience in rehabilitating an educating the disabled in order to become productive members in their society.
Moreover, a meeting was held in the administration building in which the head of the School for the Intellectually Disabled welcomed guests and transformed the regards of her highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi General Director of SCHS. Then, a presentation on PowerPoint was displayed to demonstrate some information about SCHS, which was established in 1979 with His Highness Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimmi, member of the UAE Supreme Council, Governor of Sharjah City, as an honorary president. The presentation also talked about the various sections and departments of SCHS and their distinctive activities such as Al Amal annual Camp and the Used Books Fair. Mr. Hamd Muhssin Al Falahi suggested increasing the participation in the Used Books Fair to include the rest of United Arab Emirates.
In addition, the delegation started a tour in the different sections and department of SCHS. The tour started in the administration building, where they saw some products made by the students of SCHS's Vocational Rehabilitation & Training Department. Then, they moved to occupational therapy department, where they listen to an explanation about the proper way to deal with the disabled from Mr. Suhaib Abadi the therapist. In mental disability department, guests listened to a blessed recitation from the holy Koran by the student Mohammed Khalfan. They have also listened to some teachings for Prophet Mohammad (piece is upon him) by the student Mohammed Siraj and they have enjoyed a lot the poem (Baghdad) by the student Jasmine.
Furthermore, guests moved to Al Amal Kindergarten & School for the Deaf, where they listened to students singing a song entitled 'I am from United Arab Emirates'. They have seen there the different sections of the school plus the way students with special needs were taught. Guests were very concerned in the outstanding way of teaching the disabled by wide range of movements' therapy. Then they moved to pottery workshop, where they have seen the magnificent creations of disabled students, which prove their capabilities of becoming productive members in their society.
Mr. Hamd Muhssin Al Falahi, head of social department at Al Ain Municipality, pointed out that the efforts paid by SCHS to provide better services for people with special needs are indeed extraordinary. Therefore, the rest of institutions working in the same field should follow its steps.
SCHS is teaching, rehabilitating, and training people with special needs in order to integrate them into society. This will make them exist vigorously in various working fields in the future. SCHS has great number of disabled employees among its staff. Mr. Hamd Muhssin wished for the cooperation between SCHS and Al Ain Municipality to continue in the future for the best interest of the disabled.
Finally, Mr. Hamd presented a souvenir to SCHS, which was received by Mr. Jihad Abed Qader, who gave him a souvenir made by the students of Vocational Rehabilitation & Training Department in return.
