bullet Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services Program for the Campaign

Sharjah Family Supreme Council is organizing a campaign to reduce spending and consuming under the title (Together for a reasonable consuming of a culture). The campaign, which starts with the beginning of school and includes all council's institutions, is organized under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, head of Sharjah Family Supreme Council. The head of Environmental Association Mrs. Khadeja Bamakhramah clarified that the campaign has many goals such informing the public about the importance of reducing spending; reducing waste; keeping a clean environment via reasonable consuming; and recycling. In addition, the campaign aims at introducing the public to Sharjah Family Supreme Council and its various institutions; achieving more interaction with SCHS; reinforcing the spirit of voluntarily work; and providing funds for SCHS via creative methods.

The campaigns program will include different parts of Sharjah city along with the rest of the cities in United Arab Emirates. It will restart in September 2009 and will end in September 2010. It will include several major activities such as a conference entitled stories of success. That will narrate the stories of foundations and individuals of who managed to reduce spending and made useful usage of waste.

Moreover, there will be workshops to teach students how to make useful usage out of waste; displaying a short documentary entitled "world of waste"; and organizing informative lectures in schools and universities about the proper way to reduce waste. In addition, Mai Dania will visit various institutions in order to motivate them to take more care of the environment.

The program includes reusing glass, metal, paper, plastic, fabric, and wooden waste to produce new products, which is considered a manufacturing project. In addition, the project will encourage recycling, as reusing cans, bottles, cardboard waste, which is spread all over United Arab Emirates. Everyone is invited to participate in this campaign by printing and publishing posters that inform people about the importance of reducing spending and waste. In addition, we can study other countries experiences in relation. There will be also interviews with students from schools that carry on such campaigns.

Furthermore, the main purpose of plastic bags campaign is to encourage the use of fabric bags instead of plastic bags. Stores must sell those fabric bags, which can be used more than one time, to its customers. The organizers of this campaign must persuade owners of shops to adapt to this kind of fabric bags. Stores owners must make prizes for those who bring fabric bags along with them.

The campaign program will include also an environmental exhibition for children in order to teach them about environmental issues and let them have fun at the same time. It is very important to focus on children because they are expected to change negative stereotypes when they become adults.

The targeted audience of this campaign is the institutions of public and private sectors. There will be mass media coverage for each step of the campaign. The media will organize press conferences in order to meet and talk with participants and organizers. They will also distribute informative posters on institutions. Various announcements will be published in newspapers, radio, and TV stations. In addition, there will be ads on the streets.
