On Thursday, 12th, February, 2009, Dr. Abed Aziz Said, member of Military Medical Committee, visited SCHS in order to see its different services, activities, and programs that are provided for people with special needs. The visit aims at reaching for more cooperation between SCHS and the army. Dr. Abed Aziz Said assured that SCHS has a very good reputation in the field of disability because it works so hard to improve the quality of services provided for people with special needs in United Arab Emirates and the Arab world. Therefore, it has become a reference for anyone that wants to deal with people with special needs.
He added that this visit is a promising step on the way of pushing the cooperation between the army and SCHS furthermore. The army is planning on sending soldiers with special needs to SCHS for rehabilitation instead of send them abroad. This will ease the suffering of their families because of separation. Some soldiers with special needs require constant supervision, which can be provided by SCHS due to its wide experience in this field.
The guest started his tour in the Center for Early Intervention, where he listened to a detailed explanation about the center's various services by Mr. Mohammed Faouzi. He also saw the various methods and techniques used in providing therapy for students with various disabilities starting from the age of 3 until 5.
Then, the guest moved to the School for the Intellectually Disabled, where he listened to a detailed explanation about the school's various services by Mrs. Mona Abed Kareem. He also visited Al Amal Kindergarten & School for the Deaf. Mrs. Afaf Haridi explained to him about the various services provided by school for deaf students from primary stages until high school. Al Amal Kindergarten & School for the Deaf uses the same text books used in public schools in order to give deaf students a chance to join college after finishing high school.
Then, the guest moved to SCHS's Vocational Rehabilitation & Training Department and toured the different workshops. He started in handicrafts workshop for females. Then, he moved to carpentry, painting, pottery, nutrition, and computer workshops. Mr. Amjad Tawhee, head of SCHS's Vocational Rehabilitation & Training Department, explained to him about the different techniques used in each workshop in order to make students perfect their craft.
Dr. Abed Aziz Said, member of Military Medical Committee, has highly admired the advanced level that SCHS has reached in providing services for people with special needs in such a short life time. He wished that the cooperation between the army and SCHS succeeds in providing help for soldiers with special needs.
