bullet The workshop behavior disorders

17/11/2008

Sharjah Autism Center organized a workshop entitled 'behavior disorders (diagnosis, description, analysis, understanding, and solutions)'. It was supervised by Dr. Thomas Liberty the psychologist in Hamburg Center Germany. Mrs. Mona Bagh did the translation into Arabic. The workshop, which targeted the workers of Sharjah Autism Center and SCHS, aimed at training specialists and supervisors on the right strategies when dealing with behavior disorders of a person with autism. These strategies consist on diagnosing the problem, describing, analyzing, understanding, and solving it with high sensitivity, fertile imagination, and paradox interference. Paradox means motivating a certain behavior in order for the person to do the opposite.

The workshop included a lecture about the various strategies in relation to behavior disorders. The lecture discussed the strategies of loosening tension, influencing behavior, forbidding violence, and many other strategies. It also identified physical violence and its standard procedures. A questionnaire was given for the participants to fill in order to get some feedback.

On the other hand, participants were divided into groups to work with students inside classrooms. These groups, which were supervised by Dr. Thomas Liberty and Mrs. Mona Bagh, recorded its work on tape. Then, noticed changes and developments were discussed after displaying the tapes in front of the audience after school was over.

At the end of the workshop, participants have summarized the main results and outcomes. They are: identifying the various techniques and strategies used when dealing with a behavior disorders, paying attention to child's response and the proper way to deal with it, and realizing the significance of medical status and its effects on behavior.

Participants pointed out that the workshop was satisfactory in its programs and parts. The translation was very clear and the content was fully acquired. There was a lot of positive interacting and enthusiasm. It was a creative work indeed by everyone working as a team during the several days of the workshop.
