On Thursday morning 1st, October 2009, SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled organized a lecture entitled (good relationships at work) by Mr. Abed Nassir Darweeish, administrative supervisor at SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled. The event took place at Sharjah Women Union. Many trainers, teachers, and supervisors of SCHS attended the lecture. The lecture is part of the school's preparations for a fruitful beginning for the new academic year. The staff is optimistic that this year will be special and very useful for students with disabilities. The cooperation between teachers is expected to be creative and fruitful.
It is very important to emphasize the positive behavior between workers because it is the concrete foundation of a healthy working atmosphere. This is very important in motivating children to learn. It is proper to communicate a correct message to students. Such messages are based on four elements: sender, message, communication channel, and receiver. Any malfunction in these four elements may disrupt comprehension.
Positive behavior means the group of regulations, values, principals, and standards that each employee should have such as profession ethics, which include perfection, loyalty, and dedication. Another example would be behavioral ethics such as the conduct of an employee at work and out of work, obedience, and discipline.
Thus, positive behaviors are strength and loyalty. The Islamic law for employment requires these two great characteristics. In addition, workers should perfect their work in the shortest period possible. Dedication to work means fulfilling official working hours, following the rules and regulations of superiors, maintaining integrity, working only in one job, and keeping courtesy.
It is very important for the employees to make a commitment to these values and principles in order to maintain successful careers. It is important also that teachers and administrators cooperate for the best interest of students with disabilities.
In the same context, SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled organized on Monday 28th, September 2009, a lecture entitled (the art of dealing with the parents of the disabled) by Mrs. Samia Mohammed. The school also organized another lecture entitled (educational plans for individuals) on 29th, September 2009 in order to increase the efficiency of teachers as part of its preparations for the new academic year.
The main purpose of organizing these lectures at the beginning of the new academic year is to fertilize the knowledge of experienced teachers. New teachers will benefit also from this knowledge by using it in their classes in order to achieve the highest level of education possible for students with disabilities.
Teachers now are able to prepare the educational program for individual students. They are improving their skills of observation and evaluation, which will lead to a correct determination of targeted orientations for each student.
Teachers can identify the current level of performance for each student in all aspects via observation and evaluation. These aspects are Knowledge, comprehension, socialism, self-care skills, verbal skills, and movement skills. Thus, they are able to determine the general goals for each aspect. Parents should participate in the process as well.
Furthermore, on Wednesday 30th, September 2009, the school organized another lecture entitled (adjusting behavior) by the specialist Mahmoud El Shir. The lecture, which aimed at setting organized strategies of students' behavior observation for teachers to follow up during class, targeted the trainers and supervisors of SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled.
The lecture identified behavior by "all actions, activities, and words coming out of a person". The lecture also discussed the reasons, which make children misbehave such as incorrect estimations of a child's growth by teachers and parents, contradicted instructions, and the surrounding environment. A child may learn bad behaviors from other children. In addition, there are other reasons for misbehaving such as the lack of passion, over sensitivity, and many more.
It is very important to create certain strategies in order to increase desirable behavior such as reinforcement, which has a great ability to motivate the child to increase reinforced behavior. On the other hand, it is very important to create certain strategies in order to decrease undesirable behavior such as ignorance and over-correction.
It is very important to create strategies of behavioral formulation such as idealism. This means playing a certain character as an ideal character in front of students. It is necessary for teachers and specialists to create individual plants in order to adjust the behavior of students as desired.
