bullet Her Highness Shaikha Jameela promises to facilitate higher education for deaf students

06/11/2008

Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, vice president of Sharjah Family Supreme Council, general director of SCHS, received at the administration building the three Al Amal Kindergarten & School for the Deaf female students, who joined Sharjah University. They are Zainb Ebraheem, Rania Omar (business administration), and Lima Othman (Arts).

The three students wished to tell Her Highness about their own experience at college. They talked about some of the obstacles they have been facing there such as TOEFL exam, which includes a listening test that is impossible for a deaf student to take.

The three students suggested some steps that SCHS could do in order to help facilitate higher education for deaf students. For example, SCHS could organize training sessions for lecturers and professors of Sharjah University on sign language. It could provide modern tools and up-to-date techniques for the students at universities such as devices that could turn the spoken words of a teacher into a written script for deaf students to read.

Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, vice president of Sharjah Family Supreme Council, general director of SCHS, assured the three students that SCHS will work hard in order to solve this problem by working and coordinating with universities. It will provide the required tools for making disabled students learn successfully at universities.

The three students showed the feelings of gratitude to Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, vice president of Sharjah Family Supreme Council, general director of SCHS, for her concern about SCHS's students even after their departure. Mr. Salah Oda was the sign language interpreter for this meeting
