bullet SCHS organizes it as part of its domestic activities

03/09/2008

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, General Director of SCHS, congratulated Muslims around the world. Her Highness wished the best for Muslims in this Month and called upon people to support SCHS's fund raising campaign or (Zakat) in order to support the services provided for people with special needs. She assured that SCHS is a local institution providing services for people with special needs at any time or at any places. Therefore, it supports its activities by the generous donations and contributions of the surrounding community. In addition, raised money will be spent according to the Islamic law and the teachings of the holy Koran.

Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, General Director of SCHS, said: "SCHS has witnessed recently a noticeable increase in its activities. For example, more centers were opened to provide services for people with special needs; more students were taking in boarding school approximately 2780 students; more staffs were hired to reach 470 personal. Half of the students receive direct services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and articulation therapy. The other half received indirect services such as consultation, aiding tools, wheelchairs, walkers, and headsets".

Her Highness Shaikha Jameela Bint Mohammed Al Qasimmi, General Director of SCHS, pointed out that coping with this growth needs more financial support. For example, teaching one student until graduation costs more than 26,000 AED. The student pays only 10% as a fee. On the other hand, 85% of those students receive waiver due to their bad conditions.

Her Highness pointed out that most of the people with special needs and their families cannot afford these high expenses of education. Therefore, SCHS has taken the responsibility of paying instead of those people. According to the Islamic law, people who are in need or in debt are entitled to take from Zakat. Consequently, if SCHS is not capable of fulfilling this obligation, it is entitled to take from Zakat money.

The main purpose of this campaign is to spread awareness about the mission of SCHS among the society. This is perfectly done by more interacting between the disabled and the members of the society in order to make the good attitude towards the disabled part of the culture.

Her Highness expressed the feelings of gratitude and appreciation for all who helped support its campaign specially Sharjah Customs and Seaports Department, Sharjah Cement & Industrial Development Co, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, NAZO Co, Hamriyah Free Zone, Hono Holding Ltd, and Sharjah TV.

Mr. Jihad Abed Qader, Head of the Human Resources Department, who organized the 'Zakat' campaign, pointed out that choosing a poster for the campaign, which is a disabled child receiving services with a smile on his face, represents the instructions of Her Highness in portraying the disabled in the most positive way possible.

He added that choosing the slogan for this campaign (thank you for putting your trust in us) is due to the deep desire of SCHS to show the feelings of appreciation and gratitude for those who supported its various activities through 30 years.

He also pointed out that a number of workers are receiving calls from donors from 8:30 AM until 2:00 PM and from 8:30 PM until 10:30 PM. Some other workers are willing to go to the donors at their working place to receive their donation and giving them receipts.

Mr. Jihad Abed Qader, Head of the Human Resources Department, called upon mass media to participate in the campaign by giving out congratulation cards, printing Ramadan Calendar, and publishing ads, displaying a commercial break on Sharjah TV, displaying posters on buildings, printing ads on Sharjah Co-operative Society bags, and placing ads on SCHS's buildings
