Furthermore, the school will organize an entertaining activity in Al Majaz Park that will give the public a chance to integrate with people with special needs.
Mrs. Mona Abed Al Kareem, the head of SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled assured that mental disability means a noticeable deficiency in learning capabilities joined with problematic adjusting behavior that occur at an early age. Nevertheless, a mentally disabled person can learn if he receives a proper education. He should be taught with a lot of patience and respect.
She mentioned many characteristics of mental disabilities such as: slowness body growth; low IQ; verbal problems; lack of interests; lack of proper reasoning in case of danger; slow reflexes; lack of control over excretion; motion disorder; improper eye contact; and low passivity.
Mrs. Mona Abed Al Kareem has also mentioned some fundamentals when dealing with mentally disabled person. Consequently, we should build his self esteem; pay attention to his psychological status; motivate him to socialize more with the community; help him to use his spare time in something useful; and set up an exemplary behavior in front of him because he learns from others by imitation. Finally, we should take his age into consideration. Therefore, we should avoid the excessive kissing and hugging.
The main objective of this campaign is to emphasize the humanity of a mentally disabled person. Therefore, everyone must treat him with respect; avoid stereotypes; or even embarrass his family, which hopes that the society will build its acceptance to him on scientific facts rather than rusty customs.
