She pointed out that mothers visit to Al Zahra hospital is part of the second campaign about mental disability, which is organized by SCHS's School for the Intellectually Disabled. It is not the first campaign and it shall not be the last. There were three campaigns before this one.
She added that a mentally disabled person can learn if he receives a proper education. Therefore, he should be taught with a lot of patience and respect. SCHS is doing its best to fulfill this objective.
Then, Om Ahmed told her story with her Down syndrome son. She was in shock at the beginning when she discovered his case. Then, he was sent to treatment at SCHS's Center for Early Intervention. Then, he received training at SCHS to raise his knowledge and advance his intellectuality. The workers of SCHS have dedicated much of their time and effort to him.
Om Ahmed said that each couple ought to have pre-marriage tests to avoid any problems in pregnancy or birth. The community should be aware of the hazards of close relatives' marriages.
