bullet Occupational Therapy Workshop

15/04/2009

As a correspondence for the Occupational Therapy week, SCHS's Physiotherapy Department has organized a workshop about occupational therapy on Wednesday, 15th, April, 2009. The workshop, which took place at SCHS's Center for Early Intervention, was presented by the occupational therapist Mrs. Ancy. Simultaneous translation was done by Mrs. Rana Hisham, occupational therapist.Mrs. Ancy started the workshop by identifying the term occupational therapy. It is the art of teaching the disabled to be fully independent, develop his/her skills, and avoid personal problems. It focuses on the disabled motion capability and reasoning.

Occupational Therapy is a key factor in treating many health problems such as fractions, joints problems, nervous breakdowns, burns, and cancers. Occupational therapists tend to work with doctors, nurses, and even teachers for the disabled best interest.

The therapist works hard to improve the disabled capabilities such as looking after his own self, improving the use of senses, and maintaining physiological stability. He also evaluates the disabled progress in these things and others.

On the other hand, therapists evaluate disabled children, who have problems with self care, reasoning, and touching. In addition, they work out systematic plans to overcome these problems and others. Such plans enable parents from working with specialists in order to help their children become more independent.

Occupational Therapy uses stimulation to improve disabled children performance. For example, stimulating the five senses and balance system improves children's positioning skills a lot. It also betters the rest of the disabled child's functions in general. Finally, occupational therapy deals with so many health problems such as all kinds of paralyses, spinal cord injuries, and autism etc.
